Making an Impact in the Community

Since the establishment of The Broward Workshop, the group's members have made countless improvements in the community. Their focus has been across all corners of the County to give back and improve the urban core, youth and education, transportation, governmental and legislative affairs and economic development. Members of The Broward Workshop have played an integral role in:

  • The creation and implementation of Project Horizon
  • The re-development of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport
  • Improving the governance of Port EvergladesConstruction of the Broward Center of the Performing Arts, Museum of Discovery and Science and the Museum of Art
  • Unification of Broward County's economic development programs
  • Strengthening of the United Way of Broward County
  • Improving our transportation infrastructure through development of I-95, I-595/I-75, Broward Transportation Coordinating Council, the High Speed Rail Task Force and Tri-Rail.
  • Seeking excellence in education opportunities through Nova Southeastern University, Broward Community College, Florida Atlantic University, private schools and Broward County's Public Schools.
  • Improving the foster care system through Broward Children's Welfare initiative as well as facilitating improved communication among the county's law enforcement agencies.
  • Helping to facilitate the revitalization of the northeast Fort Lauderdale urban core.
  • Helped support, promote and build relationships between all sectors of Broward County's school system and law enforcement agencies to reduce truancy.
  • Worked closely with the Tourism Industry to support the expansion of runways at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.
  • Brought together and coordinated a collaboration of all stakeholders to support the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Master Plan.
  • Monitored the Tourism Industry as an economic engine for Broward County.
  • Collaborated with neighborhood, civic and business organizations, county and city government to enable redevelopment of the Northwest area of Fort Lauderdale, including roadway corridors in order to protect the integrity of the historical neighborhood.
  • Supported legislation to create the Children's Services Council of Broward County.
  • Participated in the development of the Broward County School Board's Long Range - 10 year Master Plan.
  • Participated in the 2004 VisionBroward project.
  • Conducted a Regional Summit regarding Juvenle Justice issues and funding.
  • Facilitated collaboration for the community to re-establish juvenile assessments funding and a 24/7 Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) for Broward County.
  • Developed business community support and awareness for the needs of the Judicial System in Broward County.
  • Worked with partners from the South Florida region to implement legislation for the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA).
  • Worked on the Transportation Master Plan to determine the most efficient and effective types of transportation for our region's future.
  • Sponsored an annual South Florida Regional Day in Tallahassee to promote and support regional issues important to the business community.
  • Led the People for Progress in Broward County, transportation surtax initiative in 2006
